Former member of the NSW Parliament, publisher and global environmental crusader, Richard Jones (pictured at his book launch in Byron) has released his long-anticipated memoir, Merging with Nature: How a privileged English schoolboy with ADHD became a radical Australian activist.
This memoir retraces Richard’s courageous international acts for nature that cost him relationships, wealth and almost ended his life.

He recounts pivotal life-changing experiences along his political and activist path – saving whales, koalas, baby seals and precious forests. It includes memorable interactions with extraordinary people, including the Dalai Lama, Prince Philip and Spike Milligan.
Richard “blew his mind on LSD” in the 1960s, igniting a blazing passion for the natural word.
He kickstarted three environmental groups, including Greenpeace Australia, and in the ‘80s published the groundbreaking alternative magazine, Simply Living.
He was elected twice to the NSW Legislative Council where he held the balance of power for over a decade.
“In my twenties I learned some amazing techniques for making change and then set about harnessing them to work on behalf of nature. My wish is for young people to realise they too have the power to change the world for the better,” he said.
“So much important history, so much inspiration” ~ Julie Neville
